Chris and Julia jolted away from the horde of flesh eaters. Unsure of what they were to do, they killed the monsters slowly, one by one. Chris would slow down, and raise his axe as high as it could go, and let it fall until it hit the beast's skull. Each time they did this, blood pushed itself out of the eaters body, flying into the air, and right onto Chris.
Both of them slowed down to a jog as they were tired, and the dead weren't as fast as the living. "We avoid the houses," Chris ordered, taking small breathes.
"We don't have much choice. We can't hide in a car. Forget the houses, with this many, it'll be way too easy for them to break in."
However, both of them kept fighting. Chris took the machete that was strapped to his back the entire time, and replaced it with the axe. The weapon was lighter, easier to cut with, and now he had an extra hand. He reached into his pants, behind his belt and took a hold of his handgun. He twisted his torso, and released a bullet from his gun, nailing one of the eaters between the eyes, sending drops of blood into the air, and one line of dark red blood running down the bridge of its nose.
They were stuck. They couldn't go anywhere but run, and these things would chase them for as long as they could. And right when every bit of hope they had left. Just before they were about to stop and let themselves die, and to forget about living, they heard a voice.
"Follow me!" The two looked around, but saw no one. Confused and tired and being chased was not a good combination. Chris thought maybe he heard things, being as tired as he was, he wouldn't be surprised as to what his mind could do to him.
"You hear that?" he asked Julia.
"Yeah, but I don't see anybody!"
And just as she ended her sentence, a tall, slim dark skinned teenager ran by. Seeing someone else alive, knowing that they were trying to be rescued gave them so much hope, it filled their stamina. It eased the tiredness, and made it easier to run faster. They were now so motivated, and excited to be safe. They both ran fast enough to keep up with him.
"See that light blue house with the big 'X' spray painted on it?" The saviour pointed to a house about fifty yards ahead of them. "We're going to run behind that house, in through the back door, and my group are hiding in the basement!"
Chris and Julia didn't trust him, but it was better than being eaten alive.
With the idea of surviving and being safe, they ran as fast as they could. It was then that Chris realized how badly his legs hurt. With all the worrying, and the kids, and running, he never had time to be concerned on how his legs hurt. Chris turned his focus back to running. He felt like he was slowing down now that he had thought of his legs. Fortunately, they reached the backyard, and jumped inside the house. The dark, tall boy jogged in first, took a right into the kitchen, and crouched down, opening a floor hatch. It was dark inside but he went first. The door itself was thick and heavy looking. Chris and Julia then climbed down the ladder quickly. Chris wrapped his fingers around the rope hanging off the door, and pulled it door, making a loud thud. As soon as it slammed shut, he heard hundreds of foot steps cram into one room and consistently run about. The two friends stayed close to each other and stared at the ceiling of the room they had entered. Looking for what, though? Cracks? Waiting for the ceiling to break through and all the Eaters attack? But nothing happened. So the two turned their attention to the boy who saved them only to find six other people staring at them.
One girl stood in the centre. Maybe the leader of the group? They were all teenagers just like Chris and Julia's group. Four boys, and three girls.
"Who are you?" The girl in the middle asked the two strangers.
Chris replied, "uhm, I'm Chris, and this is Julia."
It didn't look like the girl had any guns on her, but it was obvious she liked blades. Knives were strapped to her all over her body; on her legs, her boots, her arms, and possibly two swords on her back. She definitely liked blades. Quite possibly the baddest of asses they've seen in a while. This petite girl had long blonde messy hair, and Chris was very attracted to her. "Call me Parker. The one who saved you is Timothy."
She went down the line and introduced everyone, then asked the question the group wanted to hear. "What brings you to this part of town?"
"Well we're from Edmonton," Chris answered. "We were told that Saskatchewan was safe."
The girl looked at him with piercing eyes. They were squinted just a small bit.
"Where did you hear that?"
"We were staying at an old guys house, and he lived with some guy named Scorpio, and he suggested we come here."

The basement they were living in had been renovated by the current teenaged residents, and Chris, Julia, Parker, Tim, and another boy were all sitting at a table in a room drinking tea. It was a dark room only lit by candles, and they were all talking about how the others had arrived in Canada.
Parker explained, "I was in Toronto visiting my grandparents for Christmas. I'm from New York, and the day after I arrived here, I woke up to find my grandparents packing, watching the news. The anchors on t.v. were explaining what happened in Edmonton - where it began - and that we should stay inside."
She paused. Parker looked down at the table and took a moment to gather her thoughts.
"But my, uh.." she swallowed. "My grandparents insisted on going to New York. Unfortunately, when we got to the airport, it was all shut down. No airplanes were coming in or going out. My grandparents were crying and could barely talk or whatever, so I offered to drive back home. So I did. Well, while driving back, I guess this disease or whatever spread like wildfire and walked its way right to Toronto. But midway to their place, cars were going nuts. There were crashes everywhere, and people just trying to get home. Eventually it was backed up, and we got stuck right in an intersection. An SUV hit us, but on the side my grandparents were on. They looked dead. Blood everywhere, not moving, eyes closed. I didn't have enough time to make sure because then I saw the things come out. I thought, 'what the fuck,' but then realized that it was the disease everyone had been talking about. I jumped out and ran up the highway passing all the cars. I knew that soon or later, people would find out what I was running from, and follow me. And a lot of people did start to follow me, but by the time I escaped, I was one of the few people who were safe. Those creatures or whatever you call them had been occupied by eating the people. So there I was. Confused. No family close by. Surrounded by monsters that I knew nothing about. I picked up some supplies, and ate when I could, and I ended up here."
Parker was looking at the table in the same spot the whole time. She finally looked up at us. Tim told his story next.
"During her adventure to this small town, she found me. Funny, really. I was with this group staying in a tall building in the city here. Some of our group went away and came back about an hour later with her. She was beat up, but she didn't really look all that frightened. The funny part is, though, that I recognized her. We knew each other a little bit from the internet. We used the same websites, and followed each others blogs and all that, and as soon as I had a moment alone, I asked if it was her, and she said yes. What's even funnier is that I didn't know my group all that well. In fact, I was with them since it started, but I never liked them. The reason I hooked on to them was because they were tough. Not the smartest, but definitely knew how to fight. I trusted Parker more than these fifteen people. They wanted to kill her. They didn't tell me why, but it was planned. My first idea was to kill them all, but I knew I wouldn't have been able to pull it off. So as soon as the night came, we both snuck out, and came here."
Julia asked, "how did you end up in their group in the first place?"
"Oh, you see, my parents and I were grocery shopping when the whole place closed down. The whole store shut down, locked its doors, and we covered the windows. A little late for that though because those monsters found their way in, and killed nearly everybody, including my parents. This big guy - pretty built - grabbed me and we both ran as fast as we could to his truck. We collected some things, and looked for a place to stay with his buddies."

The third kid from the group began talking. Chris and Julia forgot his name though, and didn't bother to ask just yet. However, a few words in, and was struggling to find his words. Parker cut in, "wait, you said some guy told you to come here because it's safe?"
"Well," Chris said, "he told our friend Hugh, and Hugh told us."
"Well, Christopher, let me tell you that it is not safe around here. It might be somewhere in the city, but when we walked through it, it was not safe."

Once the flesh-eaters were out of sight, Chris and Julia decided to go back. They said their good-byes, and hoped to see them again. Right before they left, Parker pulled on Chris' arm. He went towards her, and she whispered something into his ear, then she kissed him on the cheek. He looked at her with surprise, and the two walked away.

They creeped past each eater they saw, and continued running to the meeting point. After a few turns and curves and sneak-abouts, they found their friends walking about, waiting for them. Chris whispered, "hey! Guys!"
Hugh spun around and ran up to him, as did Chrystyn.
"Are you guys alright!?" they asked one another. Hugh didn't though. He grabbed Chris by his shirt with strength and angrily said, "you fucking traitor! Best friends my ass!" Hugh pushed him away, almost throwing him to the ground, and Julia and Chrystyn were shocked. They asked what was wrong and Hugh replied, "Chris! There's a huge group called KARMA, and they plan to kill us. One by one. Chris is in on it! He knows about it, and he's waiting for us to be killed so he could go back to KARMA or something I don't know."

Chris had never been so confused in his life. He didn't know what KARMA was. He didn't want his friends to die.
But they kept him around until they got to the headquarters of KARMA.
The group of broken friends now walked in the dark. Quietly.
Chris and Julia and Parker.
